to and trust your body

Please read this disclaimer about these yoga classes.
After you register for your first class, you will receive a waiver via email. Please sign & return it before class.
Yoga has its origins in the ancient spiritual practices of
India and neighboring areas.
The practices have evolved into many forms.
This class focuses on:
- mindfulness,
- sacredness of the body,
- being present and
- self-compassion.
When you have any
of the following situations in your life, then Trauma Informed Yoga may
be helpful:
- A history of
physical, emotional, sexual trauma
- Fight or flight
responses to everyday situations
- A high startle
response
- Depression
- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Self-criticism
- Difficulty (or
never) feeling safe
- Feeling your body
is your enemy
- Difficulty relaxing
or calming down
- Growing up in a
dysfunctional family
- Fear, shame,
humiliation as everyday experiences
- A need to be
perfect (or a need for others to be perfect)
- Feeling like you
are not breathing or that you are always holding your breath.
Some of the premises of the class are
- You, the participant, are in
charge of your own body
- Focus on your own experience, as much as possible
- Fine to sit
out (or lie out) any exercise(s)
- Use any props or supports that you would like: cushions, blocks, a chair, a wall
(The use of some of these will be demonstrated in class)
Every interaction we have with others, and ourselves, should be filled
with respect, grace, kindness and presence. Unfortunately, when one is
traumatized, the harshness of that experience can keep the person
frozen in a state of shock, fear, anxiety, pain and other less than
pleasant feelings or even numbness. This class focuses on addressing
the trauma-locked experiences and supporting each person to claim
her/his life, body, sacred self.
In an ideal world, there would be no need for "trauma-informed" yoga,
there would just be yoga.
Remember that you are the person responsible for taking care of your body.
We will talk about and practice poses that can help alleviate overwhelm.
